The words, in plain terms
Every term Visibian uses, defined in one paragraph each, written to be quoted whole. If a definition here and a screen in the product ever disagree, tell us. That is a bug.
AI visibility
AI visibility is how findable and recommendable a brand is inside AI-generated answers. When someone asks an assistant for the best option in a category, a few names come back; AI visibility is the discipline of being one of them, measurably.
Generative engine optimization (GEO)
The practice of improving how AI systems describe and recommend a brand. It aims at AI answers the way search engine work aims at search results.
Assistant
An AI system a person asks questions of: ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Google AI Mode, Perplexity, Microsoft Copilot, Grok, or Claude. Assistants produce answers; search engines produced results.
Answer
One response from one assistant to one question. Answers vary between identical questions, which is why single readings are never trusted on their own.
Visibility
The share of answers that mention a brand. Ask 100 questions, get named in 30, and visibility is 30%.
Share of voice
Of all the brand mentions across your answers, the share that were yours. It measures how crowded the conversation is.
Position
Where a brand appears within an answer when it is named. First is worth more than fifth.
Sentiment
How warmly a brand is described when it is mentioned, from 0 to 100.
Confidence range
The honest margin around a number, such as “24–38%”. If the ranges of 2 periods overlap, nothing has changed; if they are clear of each other, something happened.
Source
A website or page an assistant drew on when building an answer. Sources are where visibility is won. They are what the models read.
Gap answer
An answer that named at least one competitor and not you. Source Domains and Source Pages count them for each site, which shows where your absence costs you most.
Hallucination
An AI answer stating something false about a brand: an old price, a plan that does not exist. In plain terms: the AI said something untrue about you.
Workspace, portfolio, query
A workspace is your company’s account. A portfolio is one brand you track inside it. A query is one question you have chosen to ask.
Credit
The unit of collection cost: one question, asked of one model, on one day. Weekly tracking uses a third as many.
